Sister Mothyna James-Brightful Visionary Director & Founder Board Member - HWHN Board of Directors

 “A Nation can rise no higher than it’s woman,” a quote by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad edifies the passionate belief that Mothyna James-Brightful has in her mission to work with women and girls to build upon the quality of their lives and thus that of their families and communities. She has honored speaking requests at numerous conferences, community programs and schools. Sister Mothyna enjoys serving as a consultant for numerous community organizations that serve women and girls. Mrs. James-Brightful holds a Bachelors Degree in Journalism from Morgan State University and a Masters in Human Service Administration from The University of Baltimore. In recognition of her works, she has appeared in publications such as Black College Today, Ebony, Trends Magazine, Be What I Want to Be Magazine and The Afro-American Newspapers. In addition to her commitment to her community, Sister Mothyna currently works as a Community Educator with TurnAround Inc. a non-profit that works with victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. Sister Mothyna is the Founder and Visionary Director of Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation, Inc.

Monokia Tyson Nance Executive Director & Co-Founder Board Member - HWHN Board of Directors

 Monokia Nance, founder of Artistic Mirror Marketing & Design, Inc., is a creative arts enthusiast who combined her passion for the arts and almost a decade of experience in youth development to reach young people of all ages and their families. Realizing that many families currently consist of single mothers catapulted her on a journey to focus on women. As a result she Co-founded Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation, Inc. and currently serves as the Executive Director. While pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations at Morgan State University, Mrs. Nance has had the opportunity to cultivate her skills, both locally and statewide. Her company has serviced a wide variety of clientele ranging from institutions to local businesses such as: University of Maryland Poison Center, Baltimore City Public School System, The After-School Institute, Gypsy Soul and Be FRAMED. Mrs. Nance has made it her life’s work to create lasting changes in the lives of, to advocate for, and nurture the growth of youth and their families by planning and implementing school, community, and religious outreach programs.

Maria James Director of Finance & Co-Founder Board Member - HWHN Board of Directors

Maria James has a compassion for people that makes her involvement in Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation a sure fit. While an undergraduate student at Johns Hopkins University she co-founded an organization called STOP, which taught basic self defense to women and children. Her has a passion for diverse communities led her to live in Costa Rica for three weeks to learn more about the culture and community. Maria is fluent in Spanish and continues to pursue her interest which include African Dance, tutoring in math and science as well as understanding the global impact of HIV. In 2004, Maria volunteered for the first Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation Conference, embracing the mission and vision of HWHN, Maria joined the team. In 2008 she co-founded Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation, Inc.

Maria is currently the Director of Finance for HWHN. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in 2007 and currently attends Hopkins pursuing her PhD in Cellular Molecular Medicine. During Maria's graduate work she has authored papers on her research regarding Prevention of Mother to Child Transmittion of HIV.

Dr. Takiyah N. Amin Board President - HWHN Board of Directors

A native of Buffalo, NY, Dr. TAKIYAH NUR AMIN is the daughter of Karima and the late Abdul Jalil Amin. Ms. Amin holds degrees from the State University of New York at Buffalo , Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and Temple University. Ms. Amin is an active member of several civic organizations, including the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, the National Association of University Women, Sisters of the Academy and the National Council of Negro Women. Notably, Takiyah has served as the National President of Malika Kambe Umfazi Sorority, Inc. since 2007. In her leisure time, Ms. Amin can be found reading contemporary fiction, enjoying chamber music, and volunteering in her local community in addition to her role as Administrative Director and Chief Operating Officer of Danse4Nia Repertory Ensemble, a Philadelphia-based, professional contemporary modern dance company.
